Creation of database
In order to fulfill its missions, the Observatory collects data on the nutritional characteristics of food products, and regularly enriches and updates the Oqali database.
The database is comprised of the following data:
nutritional composition according to the parameters provided in type 2 nutritional labelling;
presence and type of nutritional labelling used;
portion sizes;
nutritional value per portion (if any);
pictograms to visually present the nutritional composition (if any);
food intake guidelines for a balanced meal;
nutritional and health claims appearing on the packaging and their position;
list of ingredients;
preparation and/or consumption advice listed on product packaging;
other information which may appear on the packaging (e.g. organic agriculture, quality labels, absence of additives and preservatives);
new and recalled products, and product changes (to the nutritional composition, formulation, labeling, portion size or net weight);
...
The Observatory also collects socio-economic data about the products under study:
average prices;
quantities sold in France.
Retrospective data is also included in the database in order to attest to the efforts made by the manufacturers.
