The creation of the French Observatory of Food Quality was proposed as part of the second National Nutrition and Health Program 2006-2010 (PNNS 2).
The implementation of this Observatory came about as a result of the conclusions of the feasibility study and preliminary survey conducted by INRA (ALISS Research Unit) and Anses (Ciqual Research UNit - Information Center on Food Quality) in 2007, following a request by the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Consumer Affairs. This constant monitoring will serve to underpin - on a long-term basis - the partnership approach set up by the public authorities in order to encourage the various players in the food industry to meet public health objectives and consumer expectations for the greater benefit of society.
